Meso-Micro Coupling Validated Across 3 of China's Most Challenging Wind Resource Cases

Meteodyn partnered with Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute, Goldwind, Fujian Electric Power Design Institute, and Guohua Green Energy to validate its Meso-Micro Coupling (MMC) approach across three of China's most demanding wind resource assessment cases: an orographically driven wind corridor, a strait-influenced coastal site, and a high-altitude site with strong thermal effects. Download the scientific poster, presented at WindEurope Technology Workshop 2026, for the full validation results.

Applying Meso-Micro Coupling in Wind Resource Assessment in Challenging Cases: Validation and Insights

What you will find in this poster

  • Meso-Micro Coupling methodology: How WRF mesoscale outputs are coupled with Meteodyn WT microscale CFD models to better capture wind flow in complex conditions

  • Three validation cases across China's most demanding terrain: An orographically influenced wind corridor, a strait-influenced coastal site, and a high-altitude site with strong thermal effects

  • The influence of coupling height on model accuracy: How the optimal meso-micro interface shifts depending on terrain complexity, from flat plains to highly complex relief
